Who on this earth does not love Lasagna, the most beloved Italian dish in the world?

As you may know, there are different versions of Lasagna in the world. But when we talk about authentic Italian Lasagna, without any doubt, we are talking about bolognese Lasagna or lasagne alla bolognese.

 

This step-by-step recipe guide will help you make the best bolognese Lasagna ever.

A bit of history Classic bolognese lasagne

Most historians believe that the origin of the word “Lasagna” or “Lasagne” is coming from the Greek word “laganon”. This word described the first form of pasta, which is a flat dough sliced into strips.

Indeed, Greeks didn’t invent the lasagna, but they have influenced England and then Italy to perfect the lasagna dish we love today.
I have made a quick search, and it seems no one knows the real origin of lasagna. What we can keep in mind is that the name originated from ancient Greece. Then, the first lasagna recipe was recorded in England. Next, throughout many generations of the dish in Italy, the lasagna we know today was born.

Anyway, whoever is the inventer of the lasagna recipe, we should be very thankful to him or her for developing such a magical dish.

Prepare a DELICIOUS Italian bolognese Lasagna

Ingredients

For this lasagna recipe, you will need the following ingredients:

  • 15 Lasagna noodles
  • 1 tablespoon of virgin olive oil
  • 1L of bolognese sauce
  • 500ml béchamel sauce
  • 5 leaves of basil (optional)
  • Grated mozzarella 
  • Grated parmesan cheese
Instructions

To save time, you can take a shortcut for this recipe by using store-bought béchamel and bolognese sauces.
You can also make them at home in advance. This way, it will be easy for you when you want to bake lasagna.

Thre is a secret I would like to share with you to have a successful bolognese sauce. It is optional, but I do really recommend to add some basil leaves to the bolognese sauce. It will add an amazing flavor to your lasagna (keep it secret 😉)
For this, pour the bolognese sauce in a pan on medium heat, add the basil leaves and let the mix stir for 5 minutes.

Cook Lasagna noodles:

In a pot of boiling water, cook your lasagna noodles for the time suggested on the box minus 4 minutes. This will prevent overcooking your noodles when the lasagne is baked. If you are using no-boil noodles, you will not need to cook them.
Make sure to prevent noodles from sticking together as this may turn into a real nightmare 😄. To ensure this, dry them in a colander then grease them using a bit of olive oil.

 

  • Prepare the bechamel sauce and set it aside.
  • Take an oven pan, grease its bottom with olive oil, next place a layer of bolognese sauce on it, then a layer of béchamel.
  • Sprinkle with grated mozzarella and top with a single layer of lasagna.

  • Repeat layers until the top of the dish. Make sure to keep a good layer of bolognese sauce and béchamel to use at the end.
